The Volunteer Force

Caulmont holds its own against the wind and rain thanks to the numerous volunteers who offer their time and knowledge freely. 95% of the work to keep the community running smoothly is carried out by volunteers.

Amongst these, more than 400 young people and around a hundred adults have worked voluntarily over 30 years, even paying the price of their stay on top. Real volunteer work!

Almost everything is done by volunteers: preparing guestrooms, creating new places for groups to operate, developing the chapel area, improving the rooms and facilities.

All of the big jobs have been done at one time or another by volunteers : plumbing, building, woodwork, electrical tasks, heating etc… with the sole exception of the roof work.

This is forgetting the general upkeep of the hotel and its services (kitchen, housework, cleaning etc.) which is often done by volunteers- young and old- and sometimes foreigners for a month or more.

In this number we are not even counting the small team of members of the community who give their services to the life of Caulmont, outside of their days jobs elsewhere.

Included among the volunteers are Joe, who drew the cartoons on this page, Katie Marie and Ruth, who translated the whole website into English, Paolo, who translated it into Italian, Marianne, who translated it into Dutch, Roger, who began the safety improvements, David, who is in charge of everything computer-related, Olivier, who helps with the printing and publication, and maybe YOU tomorrow… ?

" Freely you have received, freely give". This message from the Gospel of Matthew (chapter 10, verse 8) is at the heart of the Caulmont Volunteer Force.
