An invitation to prayer
Discover or rediscover simple prayer and a God who invites

A free invitation
Every day, the bell rings to invite everyone to take a 'spiritual break'. Everyone is invited to join in the daily prayer times, but it's a free invitation- nothing is obligatory.

Entering into prayer
The bell has rung, interrupting our activities. In the chapel, the gentle background music invites us to come, be still and settle our minds. After a few minutes, the prayer can begin.

A simple, ecumenical liturgy
Born out of the experiences of daily life and drawing from the traditional liturgy of the wider Church, the Caulmont liturgy uses simple vocabulary and is ecumenical in style. Today our liturgy is used in many churches outside of Caulmont itself.

The liturgical texts used vary throughout the year. We have different texts for the Christmas period (Advent to Epiphany), the Easter period (Lent to Easter Day), and two week-long texts, which are alternated, for the rest of the year.

The Word of God
This is at the centre of each prayer time. A short Bible text is read at midday, and in the evening a longer passage from a book of the Bible is read. This is continued day by day. The reader in the evening chooses a short section of text which he then repeats at the end of the reading, giving the listener something upon which to meditate.

Songs and music
Singing is easy and we can all participate. It allows the singer to express themselves and to lose themselves in the song. Singing together, in unison or harmony, allows singers to share with one another in a powerful and moving way. The recorder, keyboard or guitar accompanies the singing on occasion, adding an extra dimension.

Silence
Silence is not merely a pause or break between sets of words. It is rather a fundamental part of the prayer. Being silent is the only way in which we can listen to God. God is tender towards us, he whispers His Word into our hearts. He doesn't shout orders at us! He is simply there, present for those of us who want to welcome Him in peace and stillness.

Praise
We praise and thank God for each day and for each person. Praising God and thanking Him for His goodness liberates and renews us. It allows us to stand in awe before Him and brings us out of ourselves.

Prayers of intercession
Day by day we bring before God women and men who are in difficulty, in danger or suffering. Those close to us. Those far away from us. Individuals, nations and peoples. God invites us to be alongside the whole human family in prayer.
